Babies born 11Aug2011

Baby A was born at 1:06 and was 5 lbs 7oz
Baby B was born at 1:10 and was 5 lbs 9oz
both excellent weights for being 36 weeks and 2 days.
I had 11 lbs of baby in there. My total weight gain had been 33 lbs. 33-11=22 left over after the babies were out. They are almost a month old now and my weight has evened off. I'm still up 10 lbs.
I guess 10 lbs isn't bad. Many women gain and have to loose much more than that. I'm going to start counting my points with Weight Watchers here any day. I just need to get myself to start.
With my 10 lbs pregnancy weight, plus the 20 lbs I gained before getting pregnant, and then the 10 lbs I still had to go to reach my goal when I "took a break" =40 lbs to loose to get to my ideal weight.
Wish me luck.

By the way being in the hospital really stunk when it came to post pregnancy food. And by the time I was out of the hospital my desire to eat.

Belgium Waffles and other foods on my list

Belgium Waffles- I crave Belgium Waffles. I want to eat them. I have for months. But I can't find a dietetic friendly way to eat them so I haven't. It is going to be one of the first things I eat after these babies are born.
I've been making a list of things I can't wait to eat. Most of them are things that I wouldn't normally eat but knowing that I shouldn't/can't I actually want to.

  • Belgium Waffles
  • Cold Stone ice cream with brownies and caramel
  • donuts, glaze and cream filled
  • Oreo cookies
  • watermelon
  • Dairy Queen Blizzards
  • brownie batter
  • a huge bowl of pasta
  • apple cobbler
When all you think about is food and sweet foods its hard to keep to a diet of low carbs and no sugars. So the only consolation I have is knowing I'm not a diabetic for life, and I can look forward to eating them as soon as these babies are no longer inside of me.

Feeling Good

I am 34 weeks today. I'm feeling really good about how things have been going. These babies are doing good. At the ultra sound a week ago they both measured 4lbs 5oz. Growing beautifully for twins. I've been watching my Gestational Diabetes.
Typical day:
breakfast-
Low Sugar or Regular/Plain Oatmeal
8oz or less glass of milk
scrambled eggs
snacks-
cheese stick
almonds
pb&j (always made with high fiber whole wheat bread, 1/2, with sugar free jam)
Lunch-
scrambled eggs (if not eaten at breakfast)
Bean Burrito made on Low Carb tortilla
pb&j
or a chili hot dog (dog cut in half filled with chili cooked with cheese sprinkled on top)
Dinner-
Any of the items on the lunch I didn't eat earlier
1/2 serving of Whole Wheat pasta with sauce and side of veggies
bunless hamburger or black bean burger
Late night-
2 sugar free cookies
or 1 scoop No Sugar Added icecream
or pb&j
In the past two weeks I have gained nothing yet my babies have gained a pound and half each. I know its for no lack of eating enough. I eat though out the day and take my sugar regularly.

Eating out suggestions for diabetics:
Denny's -just about every bread option has a whole wheat option replacement
Taco Bell- stick to hard tacos or beans, or tortillas
Sonic (or any hot dog place)- order just the dog no bun with your toppings, I love chili coneys.
Carls Jr- offers the Low-Carb bunless burger, and a Taco salad

sister caught me off guard and took this, 31 weeks
thanks for dropping by.

Gestational Diabetes

Gestational Diabetes (GD)-
So I'm Gestational Diabetes or at least we think I am. I did the one hour glucose test and failed. I refused to take the 3 hour test. Instead my doctor has me get a glucose meter and test myself every morning for a fast reading and then at least one other time that day and hour after eating. When I eat something that isn't on a GD diet my numbers would be just out of range at the end of an hour. I was already eating a GD diet before I took my 1 hour glucose test. It stinks that I am now eating that way because I have to.
Daily diet- (too boring but you do what you have to do)
breakfast: 2-3 eggs, normally scrambled, sometimes with a slice of whole wheat bread toasted. Optional breakfast cracked wheat berries cooked overnight in the crock pot.
Lunch: open faced pb&j using sugar-free jelly, or bean burrito on a low carb tortilla, or a hot dog cut open with chili inside covered in cheese.
Dinner: the hot dog with chili and cheese, or a bun-less black bean burger with cheese, or a bun-less beef burger with cheese, or a less than full  serving size of whole wheat pasta with a heavy meat sauce (chicken or beef). Every mean is served with a side of veggies.
Sweet tooth fixes: open face pb&j, sugar free jello, sugar free pudding, 1 scoop of sugar free ice cream.
snacks: low carb yogurt, cheese stick, open face pb&j, almonds (carry them in my purse or diaper bag EVERYWHERE I go).
Working towards drinking 1 gallon of water a day. I've learned that I need to be better about taking water bottles with me everywhere I go. I'm in and out of my house and if I'm out I end up either not drinking anywhere enough water, or I break down and spend outrageous prices on a bottle of water.

Hunger under Control

I finally feel like I have my hunger under control. I'm not constantly feeling like I need to eat. I can go more than two hours without needing to stuff my face.
I also started this last week trying to eat as though I was already diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes (GD). I did mostly okay. 4 out of 7 days I ate eggs with cheese for breakfast, no breads or cereals. I tried to have high protein lunches and dinners also. Snacked on carrots and cheese sticks.  I feel I could have been more restrictive and better about my diet. I'll do better this week.
On my weight gain I'm officially at 32 pounds. It makes me sick to say it. I gained 13 lbs with my son, I have officially gained more than twice what I did last pregnancy. But on the upside, even 32 lbs heavier I am still a couple lbs away from my delivery weight with my son. I didn't gain any more this week eating as though I was GD, so that is also good news. Hopefully from here on out I can make healthier choices and only gain exactly what is needed from here on out. After all I can't stop gaining, each baby in there still needs to get at minimum 5 more pounds on them before they can come out and go home. Wish me luck.

HUNGRY HUNGRY

I am so hungry all the time. I want to eat all the time.
This past week I have been in Phoenix visiting my family. They are sugar-chocolate-aholics and there is surgary sweetness everywhere in this house. I have no self control. I think I must have gained 5 pounds in the few days I've been up here. There goes eating healthy.
I'm 24 weeks now and will need to start eating the diet of the gestational diabetic (GD) any day here. When it comes down to it I need to go home so that I can stop tempting myself with calories we don't need.

By the way at our 3D ultrasound this last week we verified that there are two girls in there. Twin Girls. Oh my what am I going to do.

I am so Hungry

I was NOT this hungry with my son, my first pregnancy. I'm as so hungry. I can eat a whole meal every 2 hours. I have now gained 20 lbs, give or take. I know that isn't necessary. I am only 22 weeks. I have tried constantly snacking- does nothing for my hunger. Now I have been on vacation for the last couple weeks, and when you don't have the ability to make your own food, not that I have the energy to make my own meals, you don't eat as healthy as you should. Starting this week I'm going on my low carb extra low sugar diet. Diet is a bad word, but what else do we call a food regiment. I'm hoping that this will help put off any gestational diabetes (GD) I may be developing. My sister had GD with her first child, and I was super paranoid that I was going to be with my first child also. I was not, but I am now at a great risk this time with twins. Women carrying multiple births are at a higher risk for a lot of things, GD being one of them. So I am going on a diet that for the most part is the diet for GD patients. My midwife believes that all women should eat like they are GD even if they didn't test for it. 1- Tests can be wrong and sometimes damages has already began by the time you're tested for it. 2-She says that it helps you and your baby to gain the "right" type of weight. There may be something to say for this. With my first doing her recommended diet I only gained exactly what I needed to. All of my friends who choose to eat like they were GD also only gained what they needed to from that point on. There is nothing unhealthy about this diet. You eat mostly proteins and veggies, with a few carbs/bread and veggies.
Example of a day:
3 scrambled eggs for breakfast on a slice of toast
Cheese sticks, cottage cheese (low-fat)
Open faced pb&j or deli meat sandwich (one side of bread only)
celery, carrots, green beans
chicken with mixed  veggies for dinner
open faced pb&j for desert made with sugar free jelly
And at least 1 gallon of water daily
The midwife said my goal was to eat as few sugars and carb grams as possible and try to get as close as possible to 90 grams of proteins a day.
It was hard last time, but the best part about making the choice to eat this way instead of being ordered by the doctor is, in that rare instance you want to brake it and eat something really bad for you, you can. Just make sure its not a regular thing. And since you're not on doctor's orders because it could mean serious health issues you don't have to feel as guilty about it. But even when I splurge I try to eat a sugar free dessert.
I am hoping that switching my diet will help me stay on a better weigh gain track than I currently am.
By the way I am huge. I feel like nine months and I'm only 22 weeks. I am already officially larger with these babies than I was with my son. I have no idea how I am going to handle getting bigger than this.

Complete Slacker and I'm now 20 Weeks

I've gained total so far 14 lbs. That is more than I gained total in my first pregnancy with my son.
I am finally feeling better and since I'm feeling better I am sooo soo busy trying to catch up on all the things I couldn't do while I was sick. I haven't been keep track of anything I've been eating. I realized that I got out of the habit when I missed a couple days of logging and then it was out the window. I've been trying to be good but I haven't been really good. Although I'm feeling better, I am to the point where all the sudden I NEED to eat or I am going to start throwing up. Since I've been out and about catching up on so many things I find myself running to the nearest fast food place to buy just about anything to solve my problem.
When it comes to craving I'm not doing horrible. I don't have many cravings. This I want to eat all the time are as follows, these things I can always be in the mood to eat.

  • Chili Cheese Dogs
  • Belgium Waffles
  • Any Asian Rice dish (meat, veggies, rice combos)
There are few other things I can stand to eat at any given time. These are all things I wanted to eat all the time while I was pregnant with my son. I don't even like hot dogs. I eat the Belgium Waffles the least of this list but when I do I always use the sugar free syrup (or least that is what I've asked for).
As far as how big my bump is. I didn't get "huge" with my son. In fact I often at the end had people ask when I was due and when I said "any day now" it was obvious they didn't think I looked that far along from their shock and surprise. This time carrying two I am officially larger then I was at delivery time with my son. This scares me on so many levels. All I see in my future is a lot of sleepless nights.

Lunch was an original $6 burger from Carls JR with French Fries. While driving home I ate a banana and a Blizzard from Dairy Queen. For dinner we ate White Chicken Chili.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Breakfast was a Weightloss Shake. I have started drinking them for the easy access protein. Both my doctor and the midwife said that more protein would help with my nausea and it does.  I ate a bowl of Grape Nuts in addition. Later that morning I had a bagel with low fat cream cheese on it. Lunch was a bean burrito. I tried a Carnation Instant Breakfast for a late afternoon tied me over but I threw it all up. Lasagna for dinner. Then a Carnation Instant Breakfast before going to bed and a bowl of one serving of No Sugar Added Vanilla Ice cream with just a little syrup and a ton of almonds.
Day 5 (Wed):
A Weightloss Shake for breakfast. Later that morning a ate 1 1/2 scrambled eggs. Then a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats. I use to be a calorie counter doing Weight Watchers, but with the advice of my doctor and midwife I've become a protein counter. Every item I eat I look to see if it has protein and how much. Day 7 (Friday):
Drank a Weightloss Shake around 3 am. Breakfast was a bowl of Rice Chex. I went to do an errand in town, while in town it hit me, "I need to eat NOW or bad things will happen". I desperately tried to think of what I could get in town that would be sufficient for me. I decided on a breakfast burrito from one of the small fast food Mexican places. I figured that all the eggs in the breakfast burrito would be enough for me. I ate an apple in the afternoon. For dinner we went to a Mexican restaurant near us. I had lots of chips, 3 slices of the cheese crisp, a toastada, and a cheese enchilada.  I don't know if it was the food, I ate too much, it just wasn't the right food for me, but I started to feel very nauseas and went to bed.

Twins?!?!?

So I've gained 2.5 lbs so far. I was feeling like that was a little too much so far. I had expressed that to my midwife. She said that she didn't think it was too much but that even if it was too much she tried to comfort me by telling me it will even itself out. When I went to the doctor last week she didn't act like she thought I had gained too much. But she did feel that I was measuring a little large, so she ordered an Ultra Sound. She said that there are three reasons I could be measuring large 1-I just measure large, 2- I'm further along than my dates say I am, or 3- Twins. I had figured it was just one- I measure large, especially after the disagreement I had with my doctor I was working with with baby #1 our son. He kept telling me I was 2 weeks ahead of my dates. I knew I was right and I was.
So the Ultra Sound reviled TWINS. I'm still in shock. This changes my perspective a little, how much weight gain, how many calories I need. Mostly I need to adjust my perspective of my weight gain.
Oh my goodness- TWINS

Week 11

Day 1 (Saturday):
Started the day with a bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast. A Carnation Instant Breakfast for a snack. A bean burrito for lunch. A cheese stick and a Jello pudding snack in the afternoon. Dinner was grilled burgers and a Steamer bag of potatoes peppers and snow peas, I didn't eat much since the smell made me sick. Ate a Yogurt for a late snack.
Day 2 (Sunday):
Breakfast was a Carnation Instant Breakfast with a small bowl of Multi Grain Cherries. Ate 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich. After church I ate a cheese stick and then we had dinner. I had a Lean Cuisine frozen dinner of the Ginger Chicken and the Roasted Honey Chicken (each was 1/2 we shared). Later I had some  trail mix while laying in bed.
Day 3 (Monday):
My husband made me eggs for breakfast. What a sweetheart. The midwife suggested eating a super high protein diet to help with the nausea. Yesterday I had the last of our Carnation Instant Breakfast so we tried the eggs. Ate a cheese stick. Lunch was a banana with peanut butter, an apple, and a bean burrito. I had a bag of fruit snacks in the afternoon. We were going to have Lasagna for dinner but it didn't work out, so it being Valentines day we went to Applebees. I had a glass of milk, French fries, 7 oz steak, chips with queso dip. After dinner I had 1/4th of my Valentines treat- a pint of Ben and Jerry's Chocolate Brownie. Oh and I ate a small French Fries from Jack in the Box while we waited for our names to be called at Applebees.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
My husband again made me eggs. It is so much of a help. Later that morning I ate a small bowl of Multi Grain Cheerios. I had a boiled egg for mid-morning snack and for lunch. But it all came up. Late I ate the rest of my Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream. Dinner was the Lasagna that didn't finish on Monday night. I had a very very small bowl of no sugar added vanilla ice cream with reduced sugar chocolate syrup, drowning in chopped almonds.
Day 5 (Wed):
Eggs again from my wonderful husband, its making a huge difference in how my morning is going. I needed to go to Tucson to meet with my new OB since the last one fired me. I love this OB. On the way I started to feel sick so we stopped at the McDonalds and got a breakfast sandwich and orange juice (my son ate the hashbrown). Lunch I met my Aunt at Eegee's. Its a sandwich shop. I had a BLT with some ranch Fries and a cherry eegee (slushy). Ate Fig Newtons for a snack. Dinner was Cream Cheese Chicken on egg noodles with green beans. Had another bowl of ice cream just as last night, almost no ice cream, with way more almonds than chocolate or ice cream.
Day 6 (Thursday):
My wonderful husband made eggs again. I had a Carnation Instant Breakfast for a mid-morning snack with the leftover Fig Newtons. Lunch was a bean burrito. A cheese stick for an afternoon snack with a couple handfuls of chocolate covered raisins. Dinner was another Carnation Instant Breakfast and some leftover Cream Cheese Chicken. I ate another cheese stick after dinner, another small bowl of ice cream and almonds before bed. And while laying in bed I had a couple handfuls of train mix.
Day 7 (Friday):
Ate a Carnation Instant Breakfast for breakfast. A cheese stick for a morning snack, along with a small bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats. I had a grilled cheese sandwich for lunch. After my ultra sound my mother-in-law took me to Cold Stone to celebrate (TWINS). I had a Chocolate Lovers in a love it size. Dinner we stopped at the A&W hamburger place, I had a basic cheeseburger and French Fries. Before bed I ate an egg sandwich from Jack N the Box.

Week 10

Day 1 (Saturday):
Started my day with a bowl of Chocolate Cheerios. I ate an apple and a 100 Calorie pack of Ruffles potato chips. For lunch, I ate a banana with a TBS of peanut butter and an egg scrambled on a slice of Sara Lee light whole wheat bread toasted. Dinner was Beef and broccoli with a side of chicken fried rice from a local Chinese restaurant. Ate a yogurt before going to bed.
Day 2 (Sunday):
Started eating a bowl of Quaker Oat Squares (my absolute favorite) but not even half way through I started to gag and throw-up. Didn't finish it. Later in the morning I had a Carnation Instant Breakfast mix in Skim Milk. Lunch was 1/2 a grilled cheese sandwich. I didn't eat a snack at church because it was fast Sunday and we still haven't told anyone I didn't want to stand out. It was Super Bowl Sunday, so there was Super Bowl food at my in-laws. But not all bad. We had a low-fat veggie ranch dip, low-fat 7 layer dip, Salad with low-fat dressings, and a home made reduced fat pulled pork BBQ on whole wheat rolls. I had about 3/4 cup 7 layer dips, too many chips, lots of carrots with about 1/2 cup of ranch dip, 3 BBQ pork rolls. I also had 1 can of non-diet Sprite. We had dessert of a chocolate chip cookie bar with a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup on top. It was yum. Party food, even low-fat party food can be super tasty.
Day 3 (Monday):
Bowl of Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast. A bag of fruit snacks. Lunch I had about 1 cup of Mac and Cheese. 2 Chocolate Chip cookie bars (leftovers from last night) with 4 oz skim milk. Dinner I actual made today, I made Hamburger helper with 1/2 lb of lean beef (recipe is 1 lb) and 1 can of washed black beans. I had a Carnation Instant Breakfast (quickly becoming my favorite quick fix to need proteins in my tummy) as an evening snack.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Frosted Mini Wheats for breakfast. A banana for snack. Lunch was leftovers of the Hamburger helper. A cheese stick for afternoon snack and an apple. Dinner was Chicken Alfredo made with whole wheat pasta. I had a rice pudding jello snack for dessert.
Day 5 (Wed):
Bad day.Bad nausea day bad food day. Honey Smacks for breakfast. Honey Smacks for snack, Honey Smacks for Lunch. Why? Because every time I started to eat something else I wanted to vomit. Had a chocolate Jello pudding snack in the afternoon. My husband picked up McDonalds on the way home. All I wanted to eat was the French Fries. But I forced myself to eat my double cheese burger. Later that night I was craving rice. So I ate the leftover Beef and Broccoli in the fridge from Saturday.
Day 6 (Thursday):
Another bad bad day. Ate Honey Smacks for breakfast. Frozen chicken bites (heated of course) for lunch. Tapioca pudding snack for the afternoon. Tried to eat a cheese stick, but it made me throw up only ate about 1/2 of it, and probably lost that to the toilet. We were going to eat the leftover Chicken Alfredo for dinner, well my son and husband still did. I couldn't take the smell of it so I ate more Chicken Bites. Later I had a Carnation instant Breakfast and then a bowl of Honey Smacks.
Day 7 (Friday):
Started out just as bad as the last few days. Bowl of Multi Grain Cheerios for breakfast. Bagel thin as a snack (no cream cheese). Lunch was McDonald French Fries. Had a banana for afternoon snack. Dinner was a BLT with light mayo from Subway, on whole wheat bread. Last of all was a couple small handfuls of trail mix.

Week 9

I've been so sick this week, and therefore not healthy, just eating what I can keep down and can handle. I've also been going to be early (well early for me). I'm just so tired all the time.
Day 1 (Saturday):
Bowl of Multi Grain Cheerios. Bag of fruit snacks. On the way to Tucson we stopped at Jack N the Box. I had a Big Cheese Burger. For lunch we met my parents in Tucson. We ate at Macyos Mexican Restaurant. I ate a taco and a tostada and more chips than I want to admit. After going to the park and walking around the mall we went to the Dairy Queen in the mall. I ate a medium Chocolate Extreme Blizzard. I almost made it home but couldn't so we stopped a McDonalds. I had a Double Cheese burger and some French Fries.
Day 2 (Sunday):
Multi Grain Cheerios. I had a lunch of an egg sandwich. A bag of fruit snacks while at church (and a few of my son's fruit snacks and crackers). Once at my in-laws I ate a cheese stick. We had multi grain biscuits with crock pot chicken and veggie soup. For dessert we had chocolate cake made with a can of diet coke.
Day 3 (Monday):
Bowl of Multi Grain Cheerios for breakfast. Yogurt for snack. Lunch from Taco Bell, I had an original taco and a bean burrito. Dinner I made Chicken Enchiladas. I had a sugar-free Jello pudding in the evening.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Bowl of Multi Grain Cheerios again for breakfast. Bowl of Chicken noodle soup for lunch, along with Jello snack. Bag of fruit snacks and a banana. We ordered pizza from Papa Johns for dinner. I ate 3 slices.
Day 5 (Wend):
Started the day with the Multi Grain Cheerios. Lunch was a bowl of beans and cheese. Banana with peanut butter for an afternoon snack. I had leftover pizza for dinner.
Day 6 (Thursday):
Multi Grain Cheerios again for breakfast. 2 slices of leftover pizza for lunch. Dinner we had Carls Jr., I had a Super Star, fries, and criss cut fries. Didn't finish my hamburger. I was so sick when I went to bed but every time I started feeling sick I had a handful of trail mix. It helps.
Day 7 (Friday):
Cheerios again. Lunch was a bowl of refried beans and cheese. Though out the afternoon I ate a good 2 cups worth of trail mix. Every time I feel sick I put a small handful in my mouth. Dinner we did Jack N the Box. I had a Big Cheese Burger, an egg croissant sandwich, and French Fries. Later that night I ate a tapioca sugar free Jello Pudding.
I'm not happy with this week. But our water is off (pipe at our well burst) and we can't wash dishes. Hopefully the plumber will make it out today to fix the pipes. So between the dishes and being sick (nothing sounds good) its been hard to eat healthy.
Weight gain this week 1 1/2 lbs. I have noticed a difference in fit around and in my bra so its not all just eating unhealthy. My goal is to be better this week.

I've been feeling so much more sick this week. I threw up on Tuesday for my first time. This and the lack of energy, I have not been doing any exercise.

Lunch my husband and I stopped at Jack in the Box on our way out of town. I had an Ultimate cheeseburger (897 calories) and about 4 of my husband's curly fries. We went to Costco. I didn't eat any of the sample foods, but I shared a non-fat frozen yogurt with my son when we were done shopping. We then went to Sweet Tomato for dinner. I had a small salad with lots of boiled egg and sunflower seed with almost no ranch on it, lots of their deep kettle chili, a brownie and a small serving of their soft serve yogurt with lots of caramel and chocolate syrup and peanuts on it. We then went to our cousins' bday party. She was turning 8. They pizza and nachos and fries there, I only a few of the fries and a small slice of chocolate bday cake.

Week 6

Day 1 (Saturday):
I started my day with a large bowl of Rice Chex. My husband brought home Taco Bell for lunch, I ate one beef taco and a bean burrito (500 Calories total). Had an orange for snack in the afternoon along with 4 Andies Mints I found leftover from Christmas while cleaning up the house. Dinner was Orzo and spinach stuffed bell peppers, in Weight Watchers points they are 2 points per 1/2 of the pepper with a size of zucchini. Dessert was sugar free Jello Butterscotch pudding made with skim milk. After I put my son to bed I ate an open faced sugar free jam pb&j.
Day 2 (Sunday):
My husband made me pancakes for breakfast. Which I ate with sugar-free syrup. Had an orange and a pb&j for lunch. I have 3 chocolates from the last box of chocolates from Christmas. Dinner was a veggie chili with one slice cornbread. For dessert, (we were at my in-laws) over the course of the evening I ate 6 of the white chocolate peppermint Hershey's Hugs. After we got home I had an open faced pb&j. Part of the reason I eat so many pb&js is that every time I complain that my stomach is feeling woozy my husband suggests some toast to help. I can't eat just toast so I put peanut butter and jelly (always sugar-free) on it.
Day 3 (Monday):
Breakfast was a boiled egg with toast and a 8 oz glass of milk. I had a snack orange around mid-morning. Lunch I had a grilled ham and cheese. Another orange as an afternoon snack. White chicken chili for dinner with a strawberry yogurt. After dinner my son got into the tortilla chips that were to go with the soup. He kept bringing me one at a time. The salt tasted so good and felt good in my tummy. I finally took the chips and put them away. I'm not sure how many I ate before putting a stop to it. A hot cocoa for an after dinner treat. Then before going to bed I ate a pb&j to try calming my stomach.
Day 4 (Tuesday):
Had scrambled eggs for breakfast. My sweet husband made them for me since I was having problems standing more than a minute at a time. Also had a glass of milk with breakfast. Lunch was the reaming mac n cheese that I made for my son's lunch made with skim milk and 1 tsp of spray butter, had another glass of milk. I shared a cup of yogurt with my toddler in the afternoon. For dinner my husband and I went out to our favorite local Italian restaurant, Sophias Italian Risterante. It was wonderful. My logic in going is that I wanted to have food to enjoy while I could still stomach things. We had ate bad and I can't even give the calories because they are just a little local upper class place. We had mozzarella rolls for the appetizers along with their sour dough with goat cheese dip, soup of the day- potato and leeks, for main course I had their spaghetti with meat balls. Last of all we stopped by Cold Stone on our way home. I had a love it size of chocolate and cheese cake ice creams with peanut butter and brownie. Peanut butter n Chocolate at Baskin Robbins is my favorite, but it didn't quite work at Cold Stone. Although at the moment the peanut butter really hit the spot.
Day 5 (Wend):
A scrambled egg on a slice of whole wheat toast for breakfast with a glass of skim milk. An orange for a mid morning snack. Lunch was an open faced pb&j. A fiber bar for an afternoon snack. A couple glasses of orange juice in there somewhere. Dinner we ate white chicken chili. Cup of no sugar added hot chocolate for an after dinner treat. And before going to bed I had a pb&j again.
Day 6 (Thursday):
Scrambled eggs with a glass of milk and a glass of orange juice for breakfast. A bag of fruit snacks for my mid morning snack. It had to do with that we were out and about and I needed something and that was what was in the diaper bag. While out I at a Big Cheeseburger from Jack in the Box (567 calories), I split a small fries with my son. I had a chocolate Jello Sugar Free pudding snack in the afternoon. Dinner was whole wheat pasta with California veggies and a light meat sauce. A Jello Pudding rice pudding snack for an after dinner treat.
Day 7 (Friday):
Scrambled eggs on toast with orange juice to start my day. A strawberry yogurt for midmorning snack. Lunch I had mac n cheese with my son. I ate a Cadberry Cream Egg after putting my son down for his nap. A Jello Rice pudding snack in the afternoon. Dinner I split a California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizza between our son and my husband. Later that night I had a cup of hot chocolate and went to bed.

Sounds make me sick

While you were pregnant did you have any sounds that made you want to throw-up?
It is a rarity, when I'm not pregnant, that a sound makes me feel ill. But I won't say it never happens. But I am actually very sensitive to sounds when I am pregnant. I don't think I'm entire the only woman this happens to, only the other day I heard from a friend, who is also expecting (13 weeks), that she can hear her upstairs neighbor vomiting and that makes her want to throw-up. But that sort of sound can make anyone even when they aren't pregnant to want to vomit themselves.

Sounds that made me ill while pregnant with baby #1:

  • my husband gagging himself while brushing his teeth
  • the cat cleaning herself
  • dishwasher water swishing
Sounds I can already add to that list for baby #2:
  • vibrating toys (we have this teething toy and every time I hear it I want to throw up)
  • my husband clearing his throat
What sounds are you sensitive to? Or am I just alone in this sound thing?

Week 5

Day 1 (Monday):
I'm haven't started with real morning sickness yet. Thank-goodness, all I've had so far is a few nauseated moments.
Small bowl of Quaker Oat Squares with skim milk for breakfast. Turkey and swiss sandwich with whole grain bread and light mayo for lunch. Had a Fiber bar for a snack. Dinner consisted of whole wheat spaghetti with red sauce, and 3 point of lean ground beef with a side of green beans. An orange and a sugar free hot chocolate.
Exercise- Made an extra effort at the grocery store to walk up and down every isle. I know that its not much exercise but its something more than I would have done otherwise.
Day 2 (Tuesday):
I had a bit a nausea after lunch but laying down for a little bit helped.
Today I ate: 2 eggs  for breakfast with a glass of skim milk. An orange for a mid-morning snack. Lunch was a grilled cheese sandwich on whole wheat bread, no butter. Afternoon snack of a fiber bar and sweet pepper slices. Dinner was chicken fajitas (7 points). Late night cup of hot chocolate.
Exercise- Went for a walk today. Pushed my toddler in the stroller. We walked up and down in our neighborhood. For a bit of extra exercise out of the walk, I did switchbacks on a long section of straight road.
Day 3 (Wednesday):
Felt like I did good today. Breakfast consisted of a glass of skim milk  and a glass of orange juice with toast and a fried egg. For lunch my son and I went to Chipotle, we shared the chicken burrito, with rice and black beans, no cheese or sour cream, total calories 740, and we shared it about 1/3 to 2/3. I had an orange as a snack after we got home. For dinner I had started to get chills so my husband cooked up a frozen California Pizza Kitchen pizza, I had 3 slices which is 348 calories. Since I wasn't feeling well I had two more 8 ounce glasses or orange juice over the course of the evening.
Exercise- While at the "big box" store, we looped around the outer walk way twice before starting our shopping. Then took a 3.5 mile walk in the afternoon. This walk wasn't brisk or doing anything special it was just a long casual walk.
Day 4 (Thursday):
Feeling sick and not pregnancy sick. All three of us are sick. I think we have the flu. My husband, the only one who didn't get a flu shot, has been completely knocked out. My fever never got above 99.5 degrees F. And our son's fever stayed low grade too. The worst of it was that my head felt like it was going to explode every time I stood up, combined with the nausea I couldn't stand for more than a minute at a time.
Since I didn't feel so great I ate less and drank more. Breakfast was an extra small bowl of Quaker Oat Squares with skim milk, a few glasses of orange juice, lunch was a pb&j with sugar free jam. Dinner we ordered pizza from Papa Johns since neither of us had the strength to make anything. I had 3 slices of a their Works pizza with was 990 Calories. One more glass of orange juice and a cup of hot chocolate before going to bed.
Day 5 (Friday):
We still aren't all the way well. My husband stayed home from work again. Our son seems to be feeling the best. I am mostly feeling better. I still have a bit of a headache remaining. Breakfast was another small bowl of Quaker Oat Squares with skim milk. Lunch was a piece of reheated pizza and dinner was another pieces of leftover pizza. Then later I had a pb&j, in hopes that eating something might make my stomach feel a bit better. Before going to bed I ate an orange.

Starting out

I'm on baby number 2. With baby number 1 I was overweight to start, I was luckily able to not gain too much and only gained 17 lbs total during the pregnancy (including the 7lbs 6 oz that my baby weighed). I worked very hard while after my little one's birth to lose the last bit of baby weight and to make progress in losing all that overweight gain I'd had over so many years. I had lost 40 lbs when I went on a cruise gained back 20 of it and then lost 10 gained back 10 during the holidays. So I'm not only 20 lbs down from where I was when I got pregnant the first time. 20 lbs is good, but my goal weight is still 45 lbs away. My goal with this pregnancy is to control my weight gain and have an overall healthier pregnancy than I did last time. Eat healthier, be more active, and only gain what is exactly needed. Last pregnancy I worked with a midwife, I plan on doing the same this time. I'd love to work with one of the specialized dietitions to make a specific plan for you, but we don't have the money for that.
Here is where this blog comes in, I plan on blogging what I eat, how much I eat, and how active I was during the week.
My due date is September 9th, and we'll see how I do.
